Camps and Off Ice Training

Current List of Hockey Camps this Summer

Ice Hockey Camps, Summer 2023

USA Hockey advocates for a well-rounded, active lifestyle for young athletes. Hockey players will build their overall athletic abilities by participating in other sports, which will transfer to the rink next season.

For those interested in tuning up hockey skills while playing other sports, there are some hockey and skating camps in our region. It is healthy for players to meet other coaches and players. If you hear of other camps or opportunities, please let us know.

*Often goalies are given discounts to attend camps.

Here are a few camps to consider:

Outpost Arena in Albuquerque has several programs all summer long. If you frequently travel to Albuquerque or have family there, this could be a good option.

Planet Hockey has been around for years. They usually make a stop for a week in Albuquerque in early July. Details here:

If you need a trip to Colorado, here are a few more with Planet Hockey:

Laura Stamm’s Power Skating Camps have been a regular on hockey circuits for decades. It doesn’t matter how great your shot is if you can’t get up and down the ice with speed and power. Colorado Springs in July:

Rocky Mountain Hockey Camps have made stops in Taos over the years. They will be in Flagstaff in late June.

Also in Flagstaff in July, straight out of Canada, eh? Northwestern Hockey Camp:

Durango has a former NHL player, Alain Lemieux (brother of one of the NHL all-time greats Mario Lemieux), running their hockey program. It’s worth checking their website occasionally to see what they are offering.

Although debated, there is a consensus that youth hockey players should not begin lifting weights until age 12 or 13. At younger ages, an athlete’s body supplies all the weight needed for exercising.
