The Taos Youth Hockey Association is divided into seven divisions

The Taos Youth Hockey Association is open to any boy or girl, ages (4-18)

 

The age of a player is determined by his/her age on January 1st of any given seasonal year. A seasonal year runs from Sept 1 thru August 31: Mini Mite - Under 7 (ages 4, 5, 6), Mite - Under 9 (ages 7-8), Squirt - Under 11 (ages 9-10), PeeWee - Under 13 (ages 11-12), Bantam - Under 15 (ages 13-14), Midget - Under 17 (ages 15-16), & Midget Under 19 (ages 17-18). 

  • Example I: A (18) year old midget who turns (19) on/before December 31st of the seasonal year would be ineligible. However, a (18) year old midget who turns (19) on/after January 1st would still be eligible to play one last season.

  • Example II: A (8) year old player who turns (9) on/before December 31st of the seasonal year would be a squirt. However, a (8) year old mite who turns (9) on/after January 1st would still be eligible to play one last season as a mite.

Mini-Mite
The Mini-Mite division is a developmental division (not recognized as a division by USA Hockey)

Mini Mite (Under 7 for boys and girls ages 4, 5, 6) – player must be (4) years of age before January 1st of the seasonal year. Player has not reached his/her 7th birthday before January 1st of the seasonal year.

 

Mite - Rec
Recreational (House) US Hockey Mite.
Mite (Under 9 for boys and girls ages 7-8) – player has not reached his/her 9th birthday before January 1st of the seasonal year.


Squirt - Rec
Recreational (House) USA Hockey Squirt.
Squirt (Under 11 for boys and girls ages 9-10) – player has not reached his/her 11th birthday before January 1st of the seasonal year.


PeeWee - Rec
Recreational (House) USA Hockey PeeWee.
PeeWee (Under 13 for boys and girls ages 11-12) – player has not reached his/her 13th birthday before January 1st of the seasonal year.


Bantam - Rec
Recreational (House) USA Hockey Bantam.  
Bantam (Under 15 for boys and girls ages 13-14) – player has not reached his/her 15th birthday before January 1st of the seasonal year.


Midget - Rec
Recreational (House) USA Hockey Midget.
Midget (Under 17 for boys and girls ages 15-16) – player has not reached his/her 17th birthday before January 1st of the seasonal year.

Midget (Under 19 for boys and girls ages 17-18) – player has not reached his/her 19th birthday before January 1st of the seasonal year.

Registration
All players will submit a registration form, show proof of birthdates, and pay a registration fee before each season. The fees shall be set by the Board of Directors. Additionally, each player will be required to fill out a Consent to Treat & Waiver of Liability Release.

 

Players are to stay on the same team for the entire season. The teams are to keep the same coach and team name.

 

All players are to be selected and placed on developmental teams by the way of an unbiased random draw. All coaches are to be notified in advance as to the day and time of the draw. Each coach should be encouraged to attend in the interest of fairness. Players are to be divided equally by age, gender, and experience.

 

Under no circumstance will a player who is not registered on a team be allowed to play in a game for that team. Additionally, children who are not registered with the League must not be allowed to practice with any team until they are officially registered.

  • TYHA is a recreational league in a professional atmosphere

  • First Group practices begin in November

  • Players have two practices a week

  • First game for most players will be in November

  • Mini-mites participate in 1/2 ice jamborees 3 to 4 times a year

  • Full hockey equipment is required

  • Equipment may be purchased at the swap

  • Additionally, check the board at the Taos Youth & Family Center for equipment

  • TYHA some rental equipment available
